Business / Reporting & Reconciliation

Connect every payment to the business behind it.

First Digital Pay Reporting & Reconciliation is designed to help businesses understand how commercial references, payments, processing activity and settlement records connect.

From an individual transaction to a settlement containing multiple payments, the objective is a clearer financial record.

One connected financial record.

Each record type has its own purpose and its own status. Reconciliation is not a single report; it is the relationship among the records.

  1. 01

    Commercial Reference

The business reason for a payment.

  2. 02

    Payment

A payment associated with one commercial reference.

  3. 03

    Processing

Processing activity associated with a payment.

  4. 04

    Settlement

May include allocations from several eligible payments.

  5. 05

    Reconciliation

The relationship among the records above.

Relationships are not necessarily one-to-one. One settlement may conceptually contain several eligible payment records through allocation relationships.

Start with why the payment exists.

A Commercial Reference represents the business reason associated with a payment. It is the starting point for understanding everything that follows.

First Digital Pay records the reference supplied by the business. It is not an invoicing or accounting platform.

  • Invoice
  • Order
  • Booking
  • Service engagement
  • Payment request
  • Other commercial reference

Follow the payment record.

Payment and processing are separate records with separate statuses. A received payment may still be moving through processing.

Understand what contributed to a settlement.

Multiple eligible payments may relate to one settlement record. Each relationship is an allocation. Payments are not necessarily settled together; other payments may relate to other settlement records.

Know what still needs to be reconciled.

Records do not always reach reconciliation at the same time. A payment may be received while processing or settlement is still underway. The states below are provisional product terms.

  • Matched

The related records have been connected for this reconciliation.

  • Pending

One or more related records has not yet reached the stage required.

  • Review required

A relationship needs attention from an authorized team member.

  • Adjustment recorded

An applicable adjustment has been associated with the record.

Move from individual records to an operating view.

Operational reporting shows where records stand. It is not business analytics and does not describe financial performance.

Trace a record across the payment lifecycle.

A business could locate related activity from any point in the chain using references, dates or statuses.

  • Commercial reference
  • Payment reference
  • Settlement reference
  • Reconciliation reference
  • Date
  • Status

Understand what happened over time.

The current state shows where a record stands now. History shows how it got there. Events are appended as records change, so both views serve different operational purposes.
